“Everlasting Love” and “Bad Mama Jama” singer Carl Carlton dies at 72
“Everlasting Love” and “Bad Mama Jama” singer Carl Carlton dies at 72
(December 14, 2025) He was a talented singer who created two timeless songs of very different styles – the smash hits “Everlasting Love” and “She’s a Bad Mama Jama (She’s Built, She’s Stacked).” Tonight we are sad to report the passing of the great Carl Carlton at the age of 72. Carlton’s death comes six years after he suffered a serious stroke, after which friends and family members said he courageously battled to both live and thrive.Carlton first began recording in the late 1960s as “Little Carl” Carlton, a moniker designed to capitalize on some vocal similarities to Stevie Wonder, who recorded under the name “Little Stevie” Wonder in the early 1960s. After scoring some minor local hits, Carlton was signed by Don D. Robey and moved to Houston, Texas, the home of his new record label, Back Beat Records. He saw some success with the new label including his first major hit, a disco-tinged remake of Robert Knight’s “Everlasting Love,” which leaped on the charts, becoming a top ten smash. Carlton proved himself an extremely talented, expressive singer, and his version became the first of two career songs for him.Robey sold his labels to ABC Records in 1972, and in 1976 Carlton became embroiled in a royalty dispute with the new ownership that caused him to stop recording for some time. He then signed with Mercury Records in 1977, but only released one single on that label. He was unable to land a new recording contract for several years until Leon Haywood helped him get a singles deal with 20th Century Records. A Haywood-penned single, “She’s a Bad Mama Jama (She’s Built, She’s Stacked),” became Carlton’s biggest hit, peaking at #2 on the soul chart and becoming an instant club favorite. The uber-infectious dance tune earned Carlton a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, and the accompanying album, Carl Carlton, went gold in 1981. “Bad Mama Jama” has since become a staple of compilation albums and soundtracks and was often sampled in hip-hop songs.Carlton released several more albums in the 1980s with moderate success. After 1985’s Private Property, he went on a recording hiatus, returning nine years later with 1994’s Main Event, which failed to chart. In late 2002, Carlton appeared with many R&B stars on the “Rhythm, Love, and Soul” edition of the PBS series American Soundtrack. His performance of “Everlasting Love” was included on the accompanying live album that was released in 2004.Carl Carlton toured regularly into the 2010s, usually in multi-artist R&B shows, continuing to sound great. He also recorded a series of independently released singles during that decade, including “God Is Good,” “Saturday” and “One More Minute.”Carlton was another in the bevy of talented singers from the Motor City who helped develop the Golden Age of R&B music. And in the process, he received “Everlasting Love” from millions of fans. May he rest in peace.

Jellybean Johnson of legendary R&B group The Time dies at 69
Jellybean Johnson of legendary R&B group The Time dies at 69
(November 22, 2025) He helped define one of the most iconic sounds of the 1980s, and remains revered decades later. The music world is today in mourning over the passing of the great Garry George “Jellybean” Johnson, a key figure in the development of Minneapolis funk in the 80s and the drummer for the legendary R&B band The Time. He was 69.In the late 1970s and early ’80s Johnson became part of the local collective Flyte Tyme (with future hit–makers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis). When Prince formed The Time around this nucleus, Johnson stepped into the role of drummer, anchoring the band’s rhythm section on such all-time hits as “Jungle Love,” “777-9311,” “The Walk,” and “Cool.” His tight grooves, high-voltage live presence and blend of funk, rock and R&B helped define the Time’s signature sound. While Johnson was back with the Time during their many reunions over the years, he also extended his talents beyond the group, becoming a key drummer, guitarist, songwriter and producer for other artists – particularly those involved in the scorching Minneapolis funk scene. He co-produced Janet Jackson’s hard-rocking hit “Black Cat”, which reached No. 1 on both the Pop and Rock charts, and contributed to hits by Alexander O’Neal, New Edition, Nona Hendryx, Mint Condition and many more. He also released his own music, including the album Get Experienced in 2020, and the single “American Racists” earlier this year.Standing at 6 feet, 4 inches, the physically imposing Johnson is remembered by friends and musicians as a generous, kind musician, who selflessly mentored young artists and exuded a spirit of joy both in the studio and onstage. He will be deeply missed.

What Happened to Pam From Total? Unpacking the R&B Singer’s Exit From the Girl Group
What Happened to Pam From Total? Unpacking the R&B Singer’s Exit From the Girl Group
In the 1990s, the music industry was all about the R&B girl group. One of the groups that came from the craze was Total. Led by its founding members Kima Raynor, Keisha Spivey-Epps, and Pamela "Pam" Long, Total was responsible for some of the sweetest sounds of their era. Some of the group's renowned hits included "Kissin' You," "Can't You See," and "What You Want." And, under Bad Boy Records, the group was also known for its collaborations with Notorious B.I.G. and Mase.Although their voices helped secure them a spot in the music biz, Total has endured many ebbs and flows. However, they've attempted to make several comebacks, including one in 2025 where Pam was noticeably absent from the reunion. Pam has also been laying low over the years, causing some to wonder what might have happened to her. Here's what to know.Pam left Total for the first time in 1998, following the release of their second album, Kima, Kiesha, and Pam. The exit came due to Pam reportedly wanting to focus on her solo career, though she eventually returned to the group. In 2014, she briefly reunited with Kima to perform some of Total's hits, including "Not Tonight (Ladies Night) with Da Brat, Lil' Kim, and Missy Elliott. However, since the reunion, Pam seemingly stopped singing with the group for good. In recent years, the singer has focused on making changes in her personal life. Pam started pursuing gospel music and released her self-titled gospel EP in 2022. Fans of BET's The Encore might also recall her performing gospel music on the show while forming a new girl group, BluPrint.Pam is also a motivational speaker, dance and fitness instructor, and published author. In 2019, she penned a memoir, Total Exposure: Pieces of Me. The memoir gave her fans a detailed view of her past, including her past experiences with her sexuality and drugs and alcohol, and her transition to becoming a born-again Christian. In the book, Pam also accused her ex-husband, Jaime Long, aka "J. Long," of sexually assaulting her during their marriage. The allegations came soon after Jaime married his wife, former inmate Cyntoia Brown-Long. According to her 2020 Instagram video, Pam ultimately revealed she lied about Jaime assaulting her. Two years later, she followed up with another video where she further apologized to her ex for her accusations. "I know that there is nothing I can do to take it back – I can’t go back and re-write what it is that I’ve said, but it’s time for me to forth and speak the truth," Pam revealed on Instagram. "Especially, because I’m going forward in my life with God. I’m looking to be a better person. I’m not looking to be a liar anymore…to walk in those shoes anymore.""I’ve known this for a while. I know what I did and I hid it," she continued. I knew that it kept coming up. I didn’t want to have to come and confess this. But, I truly believe that there are some things that have to be openly said because it was openly done."While Pam has seemingly enjoyed getting to know herself outside of Total, many of her longtime fans want to see her back with the girl group. In 2024, Keisha and Kima joined forces to get back on the road for the Queens of R&B Tour, along with Xscape, SWV, 702 and Mýa. Pam didn't join them, nor did she reunite with them for their guest spot on 112's Room 112 tour, which they announced on The Breakfast Club in October 2025. Keisha and Kima shared on The Angie Martinez Show while promoting their tour stops with 112 and said they asked Pam multiple times to join them, but she declined. However, they confirmed that all the Totals are in a good space and support one another from a distance.

Fugees rapper Pras Michel sentenced to 14 years in prison for illegal lobbying
Fugees rapper Pras Michel sentenced to 14 years in prison for illegal lobbying
Ex-Fugees musician Prakazrel "Pras" Michel has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for using money to peddle influence in US politics.US prosecutors had recommended a life sentence for the Grammy Award winner after he was found guilty in April 2023 of corruption and other charges, including acting as an unregistered foreign agent and witness tampering.US District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly handed down the sentence in a Washington DC court on Thursday. Michel, 53, testified in his own defence during his trial but declined to address the court on Thursday, the Associated Press reported. His attorney said the sentence is "completely disproportionate to the offence" and that he will appeal. The musician, who was also found guilty of campaign finance violations and lying to banks, had been accused of bringing "secret, illegal, foreign influence to bear" between 2012 and 2017, spanning the time Barack Obama and Donald Trump were in the White House.US prosecutors said Michel received more than $100m (£80m) from Malaysian billionaire Jho Low that was used in two efforts to influence US politics. He was also convicted of lobbying on behalf of China's government.According to court documents, prosecutors said Michel "betrayed his country for money" and for nearly a decade he "sought to exploit and deceive" various entities in the US government, including the White House and FBI, as well as his own co-conspirators. "Michel lied unapologetically and unrelentingly to carry out his schemes," prosecutors said. "His sentence should reflect the breadth and depth of his crimes, his indifference to the risks to his country, and the magnitude of his greed."They had recommended a life sentence, in line with federal guidelines. The trial saw testimony from Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as former US Attorney General Jeff Sessions.Businessman Mr Low, who funnelled money to Michel, was accused of stealing about $4bn from Malaysia's sovereign wealth fund during the infamous 1MDB scandal. The justice department reached an agreement with the fugitive financier in June 2024 to return more than $100m (£79m) allegedly embezzled from Malaysia's state-owned wealth fund.Michel was accused of helping to lobby officials in the first Trump administration to abandon their investigation into Mr Low's part in it.Michel's defence attorney, Peter Zeidenberg, told the BBC he believed the verdict "was unsupported by the evidence" and the sentence "is completely disproportional to the facts alleged", particularly when compared to Michel's co-defendants in the case."There simply is no justification for Mr. Michel being singled out like this except for the penalty for opting for trial," he said.Michel's co-defendant Elliott Broidy was pardoned, George Higginbotham received three months in probation and Nicki Lum Davis received 24 months, Mr Zeidenberg said.He also noted that possible violations of Foreign Agents Registration Act (Fara) will no longer be prosecuted except where espionage is involved and that no espionage was alleged in Michel's case.Shortly after taking office this year, Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a memorandum widely seen as narrowing the reach of Fara, which requires people who work in the US on behalf of foreign interests to regularly give the justice department information about those relationships and activities. The justice department would only prosecute "instances of alleged conduct similar to more traditional espionage by foreign government actors", she wrote.

Kandi Burruss Removes Todd Tucker’s Last Name From Instagram Profile; Ditches Wedding Ring
Kandi Burruss Removes Todd Tucker’s Last Name From Instagram Profile; Ditches Wedding Ring
Is there something going on with Kandi Burrussand her husband, Todd Tucker? Some eagle-eyed Real Housewives of Atlanta fans certainly think so. There are multiple pieces of evidence pointing towards some trouble for the long-time couple. It has fans wondering if there’s trouble in paradise, or if this is all just a scheme that Todd set up.Bravo fans have had a front-row seat to Kandi and Todd’s relationship. They met when the RHOA cast took a trip to Africa, and Todd was working for the show behind the scenes. Since then, they’ve had babies, built businesses, and put on a united front for their fans. But, as the r/RHOA Reddit thread pointed out, rumors are swirling that something might have gone wrong. The theories took flight after the celebrity gossip page, Crazy Days and Nights, shared a blind item about a “southeast Housewife” dropping her married name. Upon review, fans found several pieces of evidence pointing toward Kandi. Exhibit A: Kandi’s Instagram page. One fan pointed out that her Instagram page no longer lists her name as “Kandi Burruss-Tucker.” Now, it just says ”Kandi Burruss.”Of course, that begged the question of whether or not she ever had Todd’s last name included. Honestly, has anyone ever actually called her Kandi Burruss-Tucker? However, as one fan pointed out that Bravo’s website does list her with her husband’s last name. The plot thickens.Exhibit B: Todd’s absence from BravoCon 2025. At the event, Kandi was awarded the Wifetime Achievement Award for her excellence and dedication to Housewivery. Of course, it’s not the Tony Award she was hoping for this year, but you’d think her husband of 11 years, whom she met on the show, would be there to support her. Exhibit C: Kandi’s wedding ring. At BravoCon, Kandi did not wear her wedding ring. One fan on Reddit said they noticed that Todd hadn’t been wearing his either lately. “Soon as I saw that they both stopped wearing their rings I knew something was wrong. Well if it for the best so be it,” the fan wrote.Of course, there could be a reasonable explanation for all of this. Maybe she never had his name in her Instagram bio. Perhaps they’re both getting their rings resized right now, and Todd was too busy shooting another one of those wildly successful movies he’s been working on to attend BravoCon. We’re not sure, but we’re keeping our eyes on these two.

Stickin’ Beside Her! Blueface Addresses Age Gap With Hazel-E After Karlissa Saffold Harvey Calls Her “Sugar Mama”
Roommates, it looks like Blueface and Hazel-E are really locking in. TMZ recently caught up with them after previously catching them on a dinner date, where they confirmed they’re officially dating. Now, Blue is sharing his thoughts on the age gap between him and Hazel, and his mom, Karlissa Saffold Harvey, is chiming in too after learning about Hazel’s real age.Blueface and Hazel-E recently gave TMZ an update on their relationship, saying, “it’s going good.” After that the outlet got straight to the tea, putting Blue’s mom Karlissa Saffold Harvey, on blast for apparently having an issue with the age gap between Hazel and Blue. Karlissa defend herself though, saying she was just “caught off guard” when she learned that Hazel-E is 45-years-old. But Blue jumped in asking, “what’s the problem?” since his mom is 53. “I don’t have a problem with it. I could learn something new from her honestly.” Blue added, “I’m experimenting with it. This my first cougar.”Karlissa eventually admitted that there’s no issue, she just finds it awkward that Hazel calls her mom when there’s only an eight-year age difference between them. “That’s my sister… She calling me mom!”Prior to getting Blue’s thoughts on his and Hazel-E’s age gap, TMZ chopped it up with his mom during a little street-side chat. At the time, Karlissa said she was still on the fence about their romance but thinks things will be good once Hazel got her stamp of approval. But things quickly got spicy when the TMZ reporter mentioned the age gap between the rapper and reality star. Karlissa was shook when she learned Hazel is actually 45, when she thought she was around 38 years old. At the time she said the whole thing between Hazel and Blue was giving “sugar mama situation” but she was willing to wait to see how things play out.Where does Hazel stand in all of this? She doesn’t seem fazed by the shade or comments about her relationship with Blueface. After they went viral for confirming their relationship earlier this month. She hopped on X (formerly Twitter) on Nov. 15 saying she hasn’t popped out with anyone since her divorce and she just wants to live her life.“I ain’t popped out with a

Finesse2tymes Goes Off On Offset During Heated FaceTime Call
Offset and Finesse2tymes aren’t exactly getting along lately, and now, it looks like their feud has reached a boiling point. In a new clip shared by DJ Akademiks on Instagram, the latter is seen going off on the former Migos member during a FaceTime call. He didn’t hold back, as captured by DJ Akademiks, shouting and questioning what he did to upset his peer.Offset failed to provide him with a straight answer, enraging Finesse2tymes even more. According to him, if he’d actually said something offensive, the “Swing My Way” artist would have been able to repeat it. The recording stopped there, meaning the rest of their conversation remains a mystery for the time being. We do know what ignited all of this drama in the first place, however. Earlier this week, Finesse2tymes hopped online to share his take on Stefon Diggs, who he referred to as “that n***a that hit Offset’s b*tch.” He claimed that he wouldn’t let any of his girlfriends near the athlete due to his track record.“B*tch a** n***a don’t say my name,” Offset fired back at the time. Finesse2tymes proceeded to post a video on Instagram in response, insisting that the Georgia-born performer was mad at the wrong person. “Don’t get mad at me,” he demanded. “Get mad at the football player.”From there, Offset took to his Instagram Story to share a series of cryptic messages directed at his new foe. “All yal n****s think it’s sweet til n****s spank you then don’t. Call police,” he began. “Keep [naming] me stand on it too all you p*****s.”“What I loook like beefing with a BBL,” Offset continued. “Ain’t finessed sh*t but a bbl sweet as n***a get in the gym lol.” YG even got caught up in the mix when an internet troll questioned why Offset addressed Finesse2tymes’ disrespect but not his Red Bull Spiral Cypher freestyle diss. “I dm the p***y too,” the rapper declared.

Fetty Wap’s Early Prison Release Is Official, Here’s When He Is Coming Home
Fetty Wap’s Early Prison Release Is Official, Here’s When He Is Coming Home
Fetty Wap’s federal prison release date has been moved up to December 2026.The rapper was originally set to be released in March 2027, with multiple updates since.Officials have not disclosed the reason for the latest change in his sentence timeline.Fetty Wap is coming home in time for the holidays — next year. Currently serving six years on drug charges, the New Jersey rapper’s release date has been pushed up to early December 2026.Born Willie Junior Maxwell II, Fetty was indicted and arrested back in October 2021 on federal drug trafficking charges. The Grammy-nominated rapper was freed on $500,000 bond and had to wear a GPS monitor as a condition of his bail. The U.S. Attorney’s Office accused Fetty — who was the last to be arrested — and five others of conspiring to sell and distribute over 100 kilograms of illicit narcotics. In 2023, and after an arrest for a bail violation the year prior, Fetty pled guilty to the charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess cocaine. He was sentenced to six years in federal prison. He was also hit with five years of supervision after his release.“The pipeline of drugs in this investigation ran thousands of miles from the West Coast to the communities here in our area, contributing to the addiction and overdose epidemic we have seen time and time again tear people's lives apart,” FBI assistant director in charge Michael Driscoll said in a statement at the time. “The fact that we arrested a chart-topping rap artist and a corrections officer as part of the conspiracy illustrates just how vile the drug trade has become.”On Friday (Nov. 14), US Weekly reported that his release has been pushed up to Dec. 9, 2026. At time of publication, there was no information on what caused the update to Fetty Wap’s timeline.Initially, the "Trap Queen” rapper was supposed to be a free man on March 13, 2027. However, in September, it was reported that he would be walking out of prison on Jan. 8, 2027, a couple of months early.According to court filings, Fetty and his crew moved over 100 kilograms of coke, heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine between June 2019 and June 2020 across New Jersey and Long Island. Along with drugs, the investigation also netted about $1.5 million in cash, two handguns, a rifle, a pair of pistols and ammunition.

A new baby into my world, and one more reason to be the best version of me, one more reason to love me more than anything else or anyone else, so I can continue giving my babies the love and life they deserve."Cardi continued: "This next chapter is Me vs. Me! It's me against all odds, me against everything meant to get in my way. I've started prepping for tour, getting my body right, getting my mind right. There's nothing that's gonna stop me from giving you guys the performance of a lifetime! I've learned, I've healed, and I'm loving the woman I've become! That's what this next era means to me, and I'm stepping into it better than ever."

Grammy-nominated ‘Locked Up’ singer Akon, 52, arrested
SINGER Akon was arrested in Georgia on an out-of-county warrant and spent hours behind bars, law enforcement officials said. The 52-year-old singer, real name Aliaune Thiam, was taken into custody by Chamblee Police on the morning of November 7, reportedly on a warrant issued out of Roswell, New Mexico.Jail records show the star was booked into the DeKalb County Jail and only released some six hours later.According to a Chamblee Police report, officers arrested him after his white Tesla triggered a Flock camera alert linked to a Roswell Police warrant.Officer Joshua Rosa wrote that he found the car outside Tint World on Chamblee Dunwoody Road, where Akon was standing nearby. After running his license, police confirmed he was the wanted person.Rosa said Akon “complied by remaining calm” and told officers he knew about the warrant. He was handcuffed, searched – with no weapons or contraband found – and taken into custody before being handed over to DeKalb County Jail staff. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office also confirmed to TMZ that Akon “got locked up in Georgia after being arrested on a warrant … but he’s already been let out of jail.” TMZ reported that the Locked Up rapper posed for a mug shot wearing a black hoodie and appearing mostly expressionless. It remains unclear what the warrant was for. Local outlet Channel 2 Action News said it’s still working to learn what led to the Roswell warrant.Akon’s representatives have not yet commented on the arrest. The five-time Grammy nominee rose to fame in the early 2000s with hits like Locked Up, Lonely, I Wanna Love You, and Smack That. The Senegalese-American singer blends R&B with hip-hop and pop, making  him one of the most distinctive voices of the decade.Apart from his five Grammy nominations, he landed collaborations with artists like Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Lady Gaga.In recent years, he’s been focused on philanthropic projects and new music releases. His “Akon Lighting Africa” initiative has reportedly provided solar power to thousands of communities across the continent. He’s also ventured into tech and development projects, including a planned futuristic city in Senegal dubbed “Akon City.”Announced in 2018, the £4.7 billion project was billed as a “real-life Wakanda,” inspired by the high-tech African nation featured in Black Panther. The site, located near the coastal town of Mbodiène, was intended to be a modern metropolis powered by Akon’s own cryptocurrency, Akoin.Construction was slated to begin in 2021 and be completed by 2023, but progress has stalled, with the site still described as largely undeveloped and overrun by weeds and cattle.

Jurnee Smollett faces new legal battle as ex husband seeks for half of her retirement funds
Jurnee Smollett faces new legal battle as ex husband seeks for half of her retirement funds
Actress Jurnee Smollett is once again finding herself in the midst of a legal dispute with her ex-husband, musician Josiah Bell. Despite reportedly paying Bell nearly $1 million as part of their 2021 divorce settlement, new court filings reveal that Bell is now seeking 50% of Smollett’s retirement savings, including her 401(k) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) pension.According to Bell, the funds accumulated between 2010 and 2019—during the couple’s marriage—should be treated as community property under California law, which generally mandates an equal division of assets acquired while married. However, many fans and supporters of Smollett have taken to social media expressing frustration, arguing that the actress has already fulfilled her obligations in the divorce settlement and that her retirement savings, built over decades in Hollywood, should remain untouched.Bell, who has reportedly received $7,000 per month in combined child support and spousal support since their separation in 2019, maintains that his claim is legally justified. The situation underscores the complex nature of divorce law, particularly in cases involving high-earning entertainers and long-term marriages. It also raises broader questions about financial fairness—how much is too much when both parties have already reached a settlement? As the case develops, Smollett continues to focus on her acting career and raising their son, while this latest legal chapter reminds fans that even stars aren’t immune to the emotional and financial strain of post-divorce battles.
